About Us
The Springfield Youth Club’s (SYC) Spirit soccer team emphasizes individual skill and player development in a fun and positive
environment that nurtures the development of all the girls. The team provides high-quality, age-appropriate training by U.S.S.F. licensed
coaches and professional trainers. The team provides a year-round program including two outdoor seasons, travel tournaments, winter
indoor training, and a summer team camp.
Team philosophy
-
Increase
the pace of play, thereby increasing out scoring threat potential and
pressure on opposing teams. Focus individual and team development. We will
continue to have fun, but there will be more focus on playing games to win.
Playing time will not always be equitable, depending on performance in
practice. Juan intends to stress that there is no “game mode” or “practice
mode.” You play as you practice – so if you don’t give 100% at practice,
then it may reflect in games. Intent is to get all of them pushing each
other. Mid-season evaluations will be conducted. We remarked how the
evaluations positively impacted players in the spring. The ultimate aim is
to provide the setting for our girls to accomplish whatever goals they set
for themselves in the game – high school soccer and/or college.
Coaching - Head coach, Juan Bernedo
is a nationally and state licensed coach with
extensive coaching and playing experience.
Ed Elinan is our Assistant Coach.
Training - The team is trained by Juan Bernedo.
Regular Season - The team plays in the Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGS). The players also have the option of participating
in an indoor league and indoor training during the winter. This year
we played both indoor sessions at the Dulles Sports Plex. The team
used Velocity Sports Performance during the Winter season.
Tournaments - The team normally plays in two tournaments each season.
This Spring, the team will play in the St. Patrick's Day Tournament and the
PWSI Icebreaker Tournament.
Costs - Costs include SYC fees, which cover registration and uniforms, and team fees for league, tournament, and training expenses.
Summer camp and winter activities are extra. We expect these costs will be partially subsidized by fundraising income.
