Subject: The Virginian

We are six weeks away from The Virginian Soccer Tournament. We have lots of work to do. We will be running the Bull Run Site which has 6 fields. We ran this site last year and did an amazing job. The Virginian Executive Council has acknowledged the Spirit Team as running one of the best sites of the tournament during 2007! Scip deKanter is our Site Coordinator and does a terrific job managing all the tasks associated with site coordination. He needs your help.

First, we need to make a final push to sell advertisements so we can publish a Program Book this year. Please let me know if you are able to help. Just one ad from each of you will be great. We get 50% of every ad we sell.

Second, I am going to put a team picture in the Program Book. I have asked Doug to provide me the picture we took of the team following our Icebreaker Tournament Win. We can get a full page picture for $100.00. If you would like to contribute to our team ad, let me know. The girls will get a kick out seeing their team picture published in almost 10,000 Program Books!

Third, we still need volunteers to help Scip deKanter set up our field on Friday before the tournament. We need to receive golf carts, tents, pods, tables, and we need to ensure the goals and nets are up, trash cans are in place, and all fields are lined.

Fourth, I need more volunteers to help at the team registration on Friday and to help Leslie and Donna receive, inventory, and pack all the merchandise we will be selling during the tournament. Likewise, Leslie and Donna will need help manning the Merchandise Tent Saturday-Monday.

Fifth, we need more parents to volunteer as Field Marshalls, and to help Jim Long with field set up, policing the tournament site, and relining the fields each night.

Finally, we will be selling concessions (water, gatorade, candy, do-nuts, bagels, coffee, etc.) De Lauria, Mary deKanter and Felicia Norman will run our concession stand and I'm sure they would appreciate your contributions of water, sodas, gatorade, etc. De Lauria will be asking for your help in visiting COSTCO, Sam's, or BJ's to pick up supplies for our concession stand. De will put together her wish list and distribute it soon. Also, they will need help running our concession stand during the tournament.

We receive money for selling ads, running a site, selling merchandise, and selling concessions. These funds greatly contribute to our annual expenses. Last year, we made almost $3000.00 from running the Bull Run Site. This included our concession profits, proceeds from running the site and 5% from our merchandise sales.

Please go to the Spirit website and add your name (see the volunteer spreadsheet in the box above on the right) to the list of parent volunteer jobs. All of our team leads will be reaching out for support as we get closer to tournament time. The Virginian is a wonderful tournament but it is hard work and requires support from our entire team. I know all of you will be active participants. We have a great crew!

Go Spirit!
